Artesia residents offer thoughts on Eddy County War
Every year Artesia and Carlsbad residents have all kind of thoughts and opinions who might win the Eddy County War.Before Friday night’s kick off at Bulldog Bowl, the Artesia Daily Press polled some residents on the 2024 edition of the annual football fight for Eddy County.“The Eddy County War is always a big game,” said former Eddy County Commissioner Royce Pearson.“I recall an Artesia coach, not raised in Artesia, saying ‘it was a non-district game anyway.

Dear APS Families,It’s Friday Night Bulldog Football time again so I want to take a moment to address a matter of utmost importance – the safety and well-being of our students during the games.Last football season, we implemented the new protocol of not allowing students to walk around Bulldog Bowl during the football games. We will again put this protocol into place this season. It provided our fans with the opportunity to enjoy a wonderful evening without having to dodge students as well as cutting down on the fights. We received positive feedback from staff, students and fans on how much nicer it was at our games. Please remind your student that unless they have a reserved seat ticket, they must sit in the general admission section or the student section.

The Artesia City Council passed an ordinance that will regulate the consumption of alcoholic beverages on city-owned property at the Artesia City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 13th. The current ordinance does not allow alcohol consumption on City property under any circumstance whereas the new ordinance will allow it when authorized by a resolution. “So basically, what this is— if a person is holding an event and wants to use a piece of City property, like Jaycee Park, Heritage Park, or the Balloons and Tunes events on Eagle Draw, the current ordinance does not allow us to have alcohol sales on City Property,” said Byron Landfair, Infrastructure Director.
