New Mexico Environmental Department Cabinet Secretary Ryan Flynn discussed the details of a settlement that was reached on April 30 in which the Department of Energy will pay approximately $73 million to the state. The settlement is in relation to the radiation leak event that occurred at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in February 2014.
The Environmental Department launched an investigation into the WIPP radiation leak event in which they identified a number of issues and regulatory requirements were violated both at WIPP and at Los Alamos National Laboratory. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
