Artesia’s third-graders honored the city’s military veterans in a special Veteran’s Day program this morning at the High School Auditorium. Students, pictured above, sang the “Star Spangled Banner,” “My Country ‘Tis of Thee (America),” “Grand ol’ Flag,” “Armed Forces Medley,” “Bless Our Troops” and “America, The Beautiful.” Mayor Phillip Burch, pictured at right (on the left), and local veteran Oscar Florez spoke during the program.
“Veterans served to protect our country and our freedoms to keep us safe,” Burch said. “They risk their safety and sometimes don’t come home.” Many of the city’s veterans and their families attended the third annual event, and receptions followed at Grand Heights Early Childhood Development Center and the Artesia Historical Museum.
