Brown pleads no contest in exchange for sentencing consideration

An Artesia man charged with incest, criminal sexual penetration of a minor and 42 counts of criminal sexual contact pled no contest to the charges on Oct. 18 during a motion hearing in District court.

36-year-old Michael Brown entered the plea after a deal was offered by state prosecuting attorney Les Williams.

In exchange for the no-contest plea Williams agreed to recommend to the judge sentencing for the 44 individual charges run concurrently.

“After talking with CYFD (Children Youth and Families Department), we decided it would be in the children’s best interest to not take the stand again,” said Williams in a telephone interview Monday. “Everyone thought it would be best for the children to get the trial over with.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
