Above and below, a young girl and young boy hang onto an ATV bucking-bronc style under the watchful eye of a group of U.S. Border Patrol agents during Saturday’s Child Safety Fair at Guadalupe Park. The ride simulator designed to teach children how to “Ride Safe – Ride Smart” was hosted by the Department of Homeland Security and was among several booths providing safety resources for kids and parents alike on hand at the eighth-annual fair. At bottom, a young man waits anxiously atop his seat in a dunk tank as local children attempt to send him plunging from his perch, a chilling prospect on a day that saw temperatures dip in Artesia. The fair attracted numerous local kids and their parents, providing them with safety information as well as fun by way of free food and drinks, a doughnut-eating contest, face painting, and more.
