Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at First United Methodist Church for Anita D. Gunderson-May of Artesia.
May, 72, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016, at her home.
Russ Panzer will officiate at the services. Cremation is under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
Anita was born Dec. 20, 1943, in Holdenville, Okla., to Duard Kenneth and Mildred (Pounds) Coffman. She was a longtime Artesia resident after moving here in 1967 from Texas.
On Aug. 12, 1968, she married John Ellis Gunderson in Midland, Texas. Then on May 11, 2008, she married Clifton May in Artesia.
Anita was a teacher with the Artesia Public Schools for more than 35 years, retiring in 2006. She taught at Artesia High School, then Park Junior High. Following her retirement, she enjoyed playing bridge twice a week at the Senior Center with her friends. She also loved to spend time with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Clifton May, of the family home; daughter Jana Gunderson of Artesia; sons Eric Gunderson and wife Denise of Artesia and William Tatom May of Chandler, Ariz.; sister Cheryl Hudgens of Denton, Texas; brother Kenny Coffman of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Jason Bloomer of Las Cruces, Shelby Banda of Lubbock, Texas, Alex Carter of Truth or Consequences, Jake Craft and Trey Craft, both of Artesia, and Sadie May of Gilbert, Ariz.; and great-granddaughter Ainsley Banda.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
