The Artesia Police Department was dispatched just before 3 p.m. Monday to the Abo Apartments in reference to shots fired.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with several people who heard shots in the area of apartment complex E.

Cpl. Greg Hall observed a shell casing in the middle of the alley south of Complex E and observed two fresh holes in the complex wall. Hall and apartment management attempted to make contact with the resident of the unit outside which the holes were located with no results.

A neighbor stated she did not believe the resident to be home, as the resident’s vehicle was not in the parking lot.

Det. Gracie Gonzales of the APD Criminal Investigations Division was called to the scene and located a second 9mm shell casing in the parking lot.

Gonzales checked the interior of the apartment struck and found no penetration through to the interior. The case remains under investigation.
