The summer months are in full swing, and the Artesia Police Department is making citizens aware that their efforts to combat drunk driving are, as well.
“It is time for outdoor recreational activities, such as boating at the lake, camping, hiking trails, and other types of activities spent with family and friends,” said Cmdr. Lindell Smith of the APD. “We at the Artesia Police Department would like to encourage residents and visitors to the area to be reasonable and, if they choose to drink while enjoying such outdoor activities, to drink responsibly, thus keeping all motorists on the roads as safe as can be.”
Smith says the APD will be on the lookout for those choosing to make poor decisions regarding the rules of the road.
Officers will be conducting sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols, and special operations throughout the month of June with a concentration on alcohol- and drug-related violations.
