On Saturday, Artesians will be able to celebrate Mother’s Day weekend by putting the art in Artesia with Artesia MainStreet’s Art Walk.
Attendees will have the chance to peruse a multitude of artworks by local and regional artists, from paintings to glass to painted furniture, at 12 businesses on Main Street.
“We’ll have everything from canvas paintings and fused glass artwork to bronze sculptures and painted furniture,” said Elisabeth Jackson, executive director of Artesia MainStreet. “We’ll have artists from Artesia represented along with others from Tatum, Roswell, and elsewhere in New Mexico.”
Artists include Cyndi Grado at Sagebrush Annie’s with chalk paint furniture; Juanita Brockoff at Gracie’s with paintings; Just Us Fused Glass at Simply Bello with glass art; Matt and Marie Landrie at Kouros & Kore with paintings; Curtis Fort at Dessert Studio and in the Ocotillo Performing Arts Center lobby with bronze sculptures; Oscar Martinez at Yum Yum Yogurt with paintings; Tomi Knoch at The Jahva House with paintings; and a variety of artists showing their wares at Z-bar-X Two Sisters Studio and Gallery.
Other business, such as Bennie’s Western Wear, A Cowgirl’s Closet, and The Painted Pony will be participating by offering Mother’s Day specials.
There will also be sidewalk chalk available for kids to draw in Heritage Walkway, where Artesia MainStreet’s custom playing cards and the Artesia Historical Museum and Art Center’s cookbook, “Artesia’s Most Wanted! Pioneer Recipes from 1900 – 1960,” will be for sale.
The Art Walk will run from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
In conjunction, the Artesia Arts Council and Artesia MainStreet will host a garage sale in the “510 Building” at 510 W. Main St.
All proceeds will go toward funding future projects for both organizations.
“There’ll be a lot of things for sale that we absolutely need to get rid of,” said Jackson. “There are art pieces, kids’ toys, clothes, and furniture.”
The garage sale will begin at 8 a.m. and end when everything is gone.
