ARTESIA — A 22-year-old Artesia man has been arrested and charged with multiple violent crimes after being located May 27 inside an abandoned house in Lovington.
According to a release from the Artesia Police Department, Gene Ellis has been charged with four separate counts of criminal sexual penetration, criminal sexual contact with a minor, kidnapping, aggravated burglary, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and bribery or intimidation of a witness. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
“Violent crimes like the one Ellis was arrested for are always difficult to work because of the emotion and feelings of the parties involved,” Sgt. Lindell Smith of the APD said. “They are especially difficult for the victims and their families.  However, now that the investigation is winding down, we can allow the criminal justice system to do what it needs to do with the case and bring it to justice.”
According to the APD, Ellis’ charges are based on physical and testimonial evidence collected by APD detectives relating to an incident that occurred within Artesia’s city limits around mid-May.
