A 24-year-old Artesia man was transported to Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock after sustaining a gunshot wound to his upper body on Wednesday.

At 8:57 p.m., the Artesia Police Department and local EMS were dispatched to 912 W. Chisum Ave. in reference to shots fired.

The man was taken by ambulance to Artesia General Hospital and then airlifted to Lubbock for further treatment. APD Sgt. Lindell Smith said that while the man’s injuries are substantial, they are not life-threatening. He indicated that the man was last reported to be in stable condition.

“There is a suspect being worked in the case,” Smith said. “The detectives are currently investigating and gathering evidence that will likely lead to that suspect’s arrest.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
