ARTESIA — The Artesia City Council will vote on the instatement of a new Municipal Court judge at its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday.
The council will hear Mayor Phillip Burch’s nomination for a successor to the late Judge Richard L. Martinez near the end of Tuesday’s docket, followed by a vote.
The council will also consider approval of a resolution formally opposing the Eddy County Commission’s proposed Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) increase. The commission meets Monday afternoon in Carlsbad to determine the new date of a public hearing at which they will consider passage of the controversial Hold Harmless GRT ordinance, which proposes a two-eighths of 1 percent increase in GRT the commission says is needed for road repair in Eddy County.
City Clerk Aubrey Hobson will present a resolution determining the delinquency of payment for utility service, and Community Development Director Jim McGuire will bring forth a resolution for the adoption of an Infrastructure Capital Improvements Plan (ICIP), as well as a proposed rezoning in the 800 block of South Roselawn Avenue from R-2 to Planned Unit Development, a summary replat at 811 W.
Richardson Ave., and schedules of fees for permissible applications and required permits in Titles 9 and 10 of the Artesia City Code, and building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical permits required in Title 8 of the city code.
The council will additionally hear a program update from Artesia Clean & Beautiful Director Linda Stevens, as well as requests for the use of Jaycee Park Sept. 20 and Oct. 4 for Seek First flag football tournaments by First Baptist Church and the use of the Jaycee Park men’s softball fields Aug. 29 for youth kickball by Faith Baptist Church.
Public hearings will be held to consider an ordinance to vacate and accept dedication of an alleyway in the 4000 block of West Missouri Avenue and a variance to the “required off-street parking code” in the 800 block of South Roselawn Avenue.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Council Chambers at City Hall.
