The battle to convince the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to not list the Dunes Sagebrush (Sand Dune) Lizard as an endangered species continues.

The proposed listing of the lizard has caused controversy with area oil and gas, farming and ranching industries concerned with the negative repercussions of regulations imposed by the listing.

It is believed the listing will destroy jobs and become an obstruction to those industries operating within the lizard’s native habitat, the Shinnery Oak groves of Southeastern New Mexico.

Throughout the year, area legislators, concerned citizens and business owners have been working to ensure the USFWS understands they do not believe the lizard should be listed. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
