Crews begin curb work this morning at Zia Intermediate School in preparation for the installation of a new four-lane practice track on the school’s playground. The bid for the track’s construction was awarded May 11 by the Artesia Public Schools Board of Education to CES Construction at a cost of $83,487.29. The track will be bordered by curbs on both sides to prevent vegetation growth and water damage, and will feature a long-jump pit at its south end. Its construction was approved in order to give Zia track athletes the opportunity to learn the sport on an authentic surface rather than grass. Teresa Lemon – Daily Press
