The Artesia Police Department is asking the public to stay away from the area of 17th Street and Washington Avenue until a beekeeper can come to the rescue around 2 p.m. today. A hive of bees was located in the area after a city worker fixing a water meter was stung. Another person has also been stung, prompting authorities to secure the immediate area and warn residents against approaching the bees while awaiting a professional to safely remove them.
