Eddy County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Artesia EMS personnel respond Monday to the scene of a single-vehicle rollover on U.S. 285 near Fairgrounds Road. The accident, which was reported at approximately 3:30 p.m., left the southbound lane of Seven Rivers Highway between Castleberry and Fairgrounds road barricaded for nearly an hour. According to the ECSO, witnesses saw the victim’s Dodge pickup veer off the roadway and into the embankment, where it is estimated to have rolled as many as four times prior to coming to a stop. EMS crews cleared the scene for a Medivac helicopter and cut off the roof of the vehicle to evacuate the driver, whose injuries, according to Artesia EMT Josh Stiles, were not immediately life-threatening. The driver was transported to Thomason Hospital in El Paso, Texas, for treatment. ECSO deputies say alcohol was not a contributing factor in the wreck, and New Mexico State Police are still investigating the cause. Brandon Messick - Daily Press
