A Dexter woman was killed Saturday evening when her vehicle was struck by a train.

The New Mexico State Police report Delefina Chairez, 44, of Dexter, was travelling westbound on East Lupton Road just before 6 p.m. Saturday when she failed to yield at the railroad crossing at the Old Dexter Highway intersection and was struck by a northbound train.

Chairez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The wreck remains under investigation.
