Contingent on the money coming from the assessor’s one percent fund, the Eddy County Commission has granted County Assessor Karen Robinson up to $20,000 to pay for a lawsuit against…the Eddy County Commission.
“My initial comments to the board are that I worked with the assessor to develop this contract myself,” County Manager Allen Sartin said. “The attachments to the contract have been strictly negotiated by the assessor and the attorney. I reviewed this because it is a contract we’ll be signing, and from that perspective, I think it is an adequate contract.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
Sartin called it a “friendly lawsuit” because it would determine, for both the commission and the county assessor, whether the Eddy County can hire an outside firm to perform an audit. The county manager also added that the commission was not required by law to approve of the contract.
