A man posing as an FBI agent investigating fraud contacted a local business owner over the weekend in an attempt to gain credit card information.
According to Sgt. Lindell Smith of the Artesia Police Department, the man identified himself as James Thompson with the FBI field office in Albuquerque.
The man contacted the business owner and requested information in regard to credit card transactions.
“We want people to be aware that this is happening,” Smith said today. “An FBI agent would contact a business in person and carry the proper credentials if they needed to talk to business owners about fraud.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
