Community organizations set out on a mission Saturday to acquire food to help local nonprofits provide nonperishable items for people in need.

Joining forces, the Altrusa Club, the Artesia Fire Department and the Boy and Girl Scouts all took a humanitarian stand, committing to fight hunger due to poverty, hardship or disaster. Altrusa’s Second Annual Feed Artesia event ended with participants loading three trailers full of donated items that will benefit only local residents, according to Lisa Thompson, Altrusa chairman. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
