A former Roswell High School teacher has been sentenced to probation after taking a plea deal on charges of having sex with a teenage student.

The Roswell Daily Record reports 24-year-old Kellie Hurst pleaded no contest to a felony charge of criminal sexual penetration. Additional charges were dismissed as part of the agreement.

Police say the male student was 16 at the time of their relationship.

The judge sentenced Hurst to 18 months in prison, followed by a year of parole. He accepted prosecutors’ recommendation to defer the entire prison sentence pending 18 months of successful probation.

Hurst was also ordered to register as a sex offender for 10 years, pay court fees and have no contact with the victim or his family throughout the probationary period.
