Spring is almost here and that means it’s time for the Eddy County Friends of NRA Banquet.

At 6 p.m. March 5 at the Artesia Country Club, the fun will start. In spite of rough times in the oilfield, Artesians continue to be a very generous group of folks. We have a great package this year, and here is a list of what some of your neighbors decided to underwrite.

Terry’s Electronics and Home Center appropriately underwrote something for the home, a blue wine decanter and glass set. Ronnie Jackson took care of the NRA toaster – wake up to a NRA emblem on your toast in the morning while cuddling up in your NRA blanket, donated by Dana Morton of Chaos Café.

Dana also couldn’t resist the Freedom Flyer scooter, which will be a great gift for a little person. Brannan Financial Group donated the sword with NRA logo, and the Colt Bowie knife was underwritten by Bryan Printers. The Bull Nose slab knife was taken care of by Artesia Lock & Key. Perry Conner underwrote the jewelry set .45 Auto Sunburst.

Now if you know anything about EyeCandy Electric, you know that Martin Moreno always wants to underwrite something that requires electricity.

This year he has taken care of the NRA neon sign. I always have to schedule at least an hour when I go hit them up because that’s how long it takes us to solve all the world’s problems.

Coats Plumbing got into my wallet this year so I had to get into theirs. They kindly underwrote the target ball set. Artesia Animal Clinic always donates to us and this year they took care of the “For God and Country”

sign. Something we all could have used during Snowstorm Goliath is this year’s boot and shoe scraper with logo, donated by Artesia National Bank.

Dynamic Heating & Cooling underwrote the great fire pit, and Artesia Ford Sales took care of the Second Amendment framed art.

Now every year we have a set of luggage, and this year is no exception. If you go to the banquet, you want to keep your eye on this auction item because we usually hide a gun in one of the pieces of luggage. The problem is you don’t know which piece; this can lead to some pretty spirited bidding. Nix Oil donated our luggage. Norbert and Susie McCaw donated the life-sized decoy of the loon with chick.

PVT took care of the military cartridge board, and Randy Marrs donated the Dirty Harry print. Will we ever forget Randy in cowboy hat modeling the concealed carry robe last year?

Sondie Stockton underwrote the item I really want out of this year’s package. We will have the table with a secret compartment…

great for hiding a gun in plain sight and easy access. Another one of my favorite items was underwritten by Smile Xpressions: the Walther 9mm white edition with black NRA logo. You have to see this gun.

It is sooo hot looking, but the real beauty is the action and slide are easy enough to handle that even old, battered hands like mine can work it. This will be the gun at the Wheel of Fortune game. I can’t wait. I’ll have to get some white flowers to go with it.

Western Bank underwrote the Lucid L5 rifle scope, and First American Bank took care of the red Crickett .22LR with NRA coin. H&R Block donated the 12-GA earrings and Scott Takacs Real Estate underwrote the Caldwell AR-15 Mag charger.

Another great item we have this year is the cowboy elk hunter lamp, perfect for a house in Ruidoso. That was donated by Central Valley Electric.

Now I don’t know about you, but I just LOVE Ruger guns…

and I guess so does Dean’s.

They underwrote the Ruger Revolver 357 Mag.

Bennie’s Western Wear always donates great stuff and this year is no exception. They gave us a lovely, western Bible cover you’ll love. B&B Newsstand always carries goodies I can’t resist and this year they donated an elk whiskey glass, a skull shot glass, Harley Davidson sunglasses and a Duck Commander cookbook. So you can see, your neighbors have been busy being generous, in spite of the economy.

We have some new games this year. One game requires $20 and you pull out a wooden shot shell and the color at the bottom decides how many raffle tickets you get on that item. A new game I’m really excited about is the Table Game. Everybody at your table puts up $20 on this gun raffle; if your table wins, everybody at your table wins a Glock43, a 9mm small, compact semi-auto pistol. We can always find a place to stash a small gun. So let’s say not everyone at your table wants to play – you can buy two chances, you win two guns, or someone from another table joins your table and wins with you. FUN.

Our banquet tickets are only $40. They can be purchased from Kathy Kolt at 425-221- 7700, Leslie Patterson at 575- 703-6274, or you can get them at First Street Firearms and look at the guns that will be at the banquet. Remember, our tickets go fast, don’t wait till the last minute. See you there.
