ARTESIA — The Eddy County Commission held a special meeting Monday to reschedule a public hearing and vote on its proposed Hold Harmless Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) ordinance, which resulted in a change of location.
The original hearing, scheduled for 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Artesia Center, was postponed due to legal issues with the ordinance’s wording.
The commission convened Monday specifically to set a new date for the hearing. Both the time and venue were changed, with the commission opting to hold the hearing at its regularly-scheduled meeting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, at the Eddy County Administration Complex in Carlsbad.
The commission had previously taken the advice of Commissioner Royce Pearson, who indicated a hearing at a time of day during which most citizens can attend and a neutral venue in Artesia would be preferable. Pearson voted “no” Monday due to the time and location change but was outvoted, with Commissioner Glenn Collier, also of Artesia, not in attendance.
