Above from left, sisters Bela, Karina and Kyra Fox show off their respective Hedwig the snowy owl, Hermione Granger, and Dobby costumes before heading into the Artesia Public Library Thursday for the annual Harry Potter Book Night. This year’s theme was Fantastic Beasts. Attendees were able to make their own Harry Potter glasses and bowtruckles, enjoy snacks mentioned in the book series, and discover their houses during a session with the Sorting Hat. Below, Wilson Williams, left, and Stephen Mendez were the first through the doors and rushed straight to the glasses-making table to fashion their trademark round spectacles. Next, Adeline Swarengin stands with her wand at the ready and her owl at her side. At bottom, TJ Shoemaker dons the Sorting Hat with a little help from Artesia Public Library teen services librarian Jessica Paschal while drawing a slip from the cauldron to learn of which Hogwarts house he’d be a member. TJ joined his sister, Tegan Shoemaker, right, as a member of Gryffindor house.
