
Memorial services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at Victory Life Fellowship for Herman Elton Herring of Artesia.
Herring, 86, was called to his eternal home Sunday, Jan. 7, 2018, at his home.
Pastor Gabriel Herrera will officiate the services. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Terpening & Son Mortuary.
Herman was born Aug. 21, 1931, in Ballinger, Texas, to Doss Berry and Kathleen (Holloway) Herring. He moved to Artesia in 1949 from Texas and made it his home.
Herman served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
On Aug. 21, 1954, he married Monique Louvet in France. She preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 1964, and he was then married to Wanda Armstrong on Jan. 10, 1966, in Artesia. She preceded him in death Feb. 16, 2016.
Herman was a member of Victory Life Fellowship and loved the Lord with all of his heart. He worked as a rancher and a cross-country truck driver when unable to continue ranching. He was one of the founding members of Pecos Valley Bluegrass and played banjo for them for a number of years. He was also a member of the Rodeo Cowboy Association of America and enjoyed woodworking and leather smith. He made saddles, chaps, boots, belts and straps.
Survivors include daughters Barbara Morris, Claudie Cochran and husband Michael, and Yvonne Herrera and husband Gabriel, all of Artesia; son William D. Herring of Artesia; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Jim Doss Herring and Tommy Wayne Herring; and nephew Dale Wayne Herring.
