Howard Warren “Dusty” Smart went to his heavenly home May 11, 2016, after a six-year battle with cancer.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 21, at Pecos Diamond Steakhouse, 601 S. First St. (enter through back door), with Brother Andy Harris of Encompass Hospice officiating.
Dusty was born April 13, 1945, in Levelland, Texas, to Wesley Kirby Smart and Geraldine (Nettles) Smart.
On Dec. 7, 1996, he married Lillian “Lilli” Black in Artesia.
He made his living as a truck driver in the oilfield.
Survivors include his wife, Lilli Smart, of the family home; grandchildren Fallyn Campbell and Tony Murillo of the family home and Darin Jackson of Lake Arthur; daughter Katie Baillio and children Ty Harper and Cheyenne Harper of Sherman, Texas; son Jon Baillio, wife Sarah, and children Alexandra Franklin, Arielle Baillio, Isaac Baillio and Aidan Baillio of Oklahoma; daughter Megan Murillo of Artesia; daughter Vonda Dixon and children Tiffany Wilson and Brenna O’Brien of Tennessee; daughter-in-law Patty Maccausland and children Stephanie Salisbury, Kayleigh Salisbury and Cory Smart of Kansas; and sister Karen Smart and brother Kenneth Smart, both of Los Lunas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Kevin Smart; sister Cheryl Smart Sisk; and granddaughter Tiara Lemons.
