Investigation into arson at local business ongoing

The investigation into an arson that occurred early this month at a local business is ongoing, and Crime Stoppers of Eddy County is seeking the public’s help.

At around 5 a.m. Jan. 2, Eddy County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Artesia Fire Department crews were dispatched to Southwest Body and Towing, 1523 S. First St., in reference to a fire.

Detectives met with several witnesses and the business owner regarding the suspicious fire, which was determined to have resulted after a breaking and entering. The business owner advised damages totaled around $5,000.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Crime Stoppers of Eddy County. Tips can be submitted anonymously in one of three ways, and information leading to an arrest could result in a cash reward.
