Above,, a youngster claims a tote bag after spinning the prize wheel Friday at the Artesia Public Library’s Summer Reading Program booth at the Summer Activities Fair. The fair was held at the Artesia Public Schools Administration Building and gave children and parents the chance to learn more about and sign up for summer youth programs being held in the community. The fair was sponsored by the Artesia Chamber of Commerce. Below, a parent listens as David Grousnick, organizer of Smokin’ on the Pecos, explains the Kids’ Q barbecue competition. The event was also attended by the Kickin’ It Under the Lights 3v3 Soccer Tournament, AMC Theatres, Artesia Arts Council, Artesia Historical Museum, MOPS, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Changing Lives Coalition, City of Artesia Recreation Department, ENMU-R Aviation, Eddy County 4-H and Fair, Faith and First Baptist Churches, Artesia High School girls’ basketball and volleyball, Girl Scouts of the Desert Southwest, J&J Home Care, Kick Some Math, Mega Sports Camp, Ride for Bikes’ Wet ‘n’ Wild Tour, and Therapy Solutions of New Mexico.
