Above, students in Donna Williams’ turtle class at Grand Heights Early Childhood Center participate in a gunny sack race Thursday morning during the school’s Cowboy Roundup at the Eddy County Fairgrounds. Kindergarteners participated in dummy roping, egg toss, dodgeball, horseshoes, stick horse barrel racing, cowboy dress-up, and mini-horse rides as part of the annual event put on for the turtle, kangaroo, monkey and hippo classes by Tammy Anderson. At right, Kayla Covarrubas, a kindergartener at Grand Heights Early Childhood Center, takes a ride on Sparkplug, a mini-horse led by James Waldrop.
