Artesia’s Kmart, a longstanding fixture in the community, will close in early August, the store’s management has confirmed.
Rumors began circulating last month, as parent company Sears Holdings released a nationwide statement regarding widespread closures of Kmart and Sears locations. The corporation, however, released no definitive information on which stores would be shuttered.
The Daily Press learned of the closure through advertising communication regarding the store’s upcoming liquidation sale and confirmed the information Friday with local management.
Management declined to comment on the reasons for the closure, and calls placed to area officials with Sears Holdings have not been returned. More details will be released as they become available.
