In 2008, Artesia High School head volleyball coach Stacy Gowen and her staff made the decision to rebuild the Bulldog volleyball program from the ground up.
With an intrepid group comprised largely of freshmen and sophomores and just a precious few upperclassmen, Gowen and assistants Pam Lynn and Sara Gage began the daunting task of returning the Bulldog netters to relevance in the competitive field of Class 4A.
The fresh faces that took part in that effort saw two seasons’ worth of hard work and growing pains pay off in November of 2010, when the AHS volleyball team won the school’s first state championship since 1978.
Assistant coach Lynn was also a fresh face that season, her first in Artesia. And the dedication and effort put forth by the now-third-year coach was recognized this summer by the New Mexico High School Coaches Association with their honoring of Lynn as the New Mexico Assistant Coach of the Year for volleyball. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
