Authorities have officially confirmed the identity of a man taken into custody yesterday in Mexico as the individual wanted in connection with the killing of his wife and four children Saturday in Roswell.
Juan David Villegas-Hernandez, 34, is charged with five counts of first-degree murders in the deaths of his wife, Cynthia Villegas, 34, and daughters Yamilen Villegas, 14; Cynthia Janet Villegas, 11; Abigail Villegas, 7; and Idaly Villegas, 3.
He was taken into custody Sunday afternoon by authorities in the town of Arizpe in the northwestern Mexican state of Sonora. The U.S. Marshals Service is now assisting the Roswell Police Department in attempting to provide the paperwork needed by Mexican authorities to enable them to hold the suspect during the extradition process.
The victims were found deceased at approximately 11:15 p.m. Saturday at their home in the 2300 block of Davis Avenue in Roswell by other family members who could not reach them by phone. One of the individuals who came to the home in search of the family partially entered an open window and saw one of the victims, then exited the home and contacted police.
