Governor vows to support oil and gas industry

Governor Susana Martinez attended the Desk and Derrick Club of Artesia Industry Appreciation dinner at the Artesia Country Club yesterday evening where she vowed to uphold her campaign promises and support the oil and gas industry.

Martinez praised Artesia as a beautiful town where she has always felt welcomed. She shared a story – a story she now shares nationally – about her visit to Central Elementary School earlier in the year where she was overwhelmed by the success of the education process. She stated she was impressed the minority majority school had third-grade students reading well above their grade level; a success she attributed to the dedication of the teachers working in the classrooms.

Martinez told dinner guests, when she first took office her administration immediately began working to get the state government’s financial house in order by balancing the budget without raising taxes.

“We are not going to increase revenue on the backs of the families of New Mexicans just so we can maintain the enormous size of state government,” Martinez said. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
