Former Artesia High School quarterback Jeremy Maupin is returning to the sideline at Bulldog Bowl, this time as head coach.

The Artesia Public Schools announced this morning its hiring of Maupin to succeed Rex Henderson as head coach of the Bulldog football team. Henderson recently resigned after five seasons at the helm.

Maupin quarterbacked the ‘Dogs to a state championship in 2004 and returned to the program as an assistant coach in 2012 following his graduation from New Mexico State University. In 2017, he accepted the head coaching position at Los Lunas High School.

During Maupin’s tenure, the Tigers competed for the Class 5A state championship in 2018 and 2019. He compiled a record of 30-10 over the course of his four years in Los Lunas.

“My time at Los Lunas has been so meaningful and an experience I will cherish forever,” Maupin said today. “I have formed so many lifelong friendships and have had the complete honor of coaching some of the finest young men and women in New Mexico.

“I am excited for this new opportunity to be a part of my alma mater and work with some of the greatest people I know. I feel so honored to get to coach in Artesia and look forward to getting to work as soon as possible. It’s great to be a Bulldog again.”
