NMSP continuing to investigate fatal motorcycle wreck near Artesia

The New Mexico State Police continues tonight to investigate a fatal motorcycle accident that occurred this afternoon near Artesia.

The NMSP responded at approximately 2:25 p.m. today to U.S. 285, mile marker 52, south of Artesia to a report of a motorcycle wreck.

Initial investigation revealed a northbound motorcycle, driven by Ruben Diaz, 49, of Newman, Calif., was travelling at a high rate of speed when Diaz lost control of the motorcycle, colliding with a guardrail.

Diaz sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
