The New Mexico State Police are investigating an officer-involved shots fired incident that occurred Thursday in Lovington.

At around 3 a.m. Thursday, a Lovington Police Department officer arrested Karlo Sanchez Hernandez, 18, for burglary at a local business. Hernandez was taken into custody but somehow managed to escape, running toward the Panda Buffet.

After a short foot pursuit, Hernandez was re-detained. During his apprehension, a shot was fired by a LPD officer. There were no injuries to officers or Hernandez as a result of the incident.

Agents from the NMSP Investigations Bureau were immediately notified and are currently conducting an investigation of the incident. No further information is available at this time. The name of the officer involved and details of the shooting will not be released until after all interviews have been completed.
