12-24-RoselawnChristmasFiesta — CHRISTMAS FIESTA -- Roselawn Elementary School’s first-graders presented a “Christmas Fiesta” last week for their families, friends, and Roselawn staff. The program, under the direction of music teacher Debra Leonard, included such songs as “Cancion De La Navidad,” “Keep It Light” and “No Pinata.” (Teresa Lemon - Daily Press)

PACKS OF LOVE DEVOTIONAL REMEMBERS LOCAL GIRL — Packs of Love recently came together to compile Christmas care packages of gifts and food for local children and families in need. Included in the packages were devotionals in memory of Kayci Houghtaling, daughter of Ty and Jennifer Houghtaling, who passed away in December 2011. GINGERBREAD HOUSE WORKSHOP — The Artesia Arts Council presented a number of popular holiday events this season, but perhaps none is more well-loved by local families than the annual Gingerbread Workshop. NATIVITY COLLECTION — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints presented a walk-through Bethlehem Chritsmas Nativity Display earlier this month for the public to enjoy. Twelve families submitted a total of 70 nativities for the display, with Maebeth Barmore contributing 20 of her own. Nativities ranged from the coconut-crafted scene above to the next Lego nativity, to the final nativity created from olive wood from the Garden of Gethsemane in Jerusalem. LIVE NATIVITY — First United Methodist Church’s annual live nativity brought the story of the first Christmas to onlookers in an immersive way last week in the churchyard.
