TO THE EDITOR:

7024U Youth Outreach Center staff would like to say “a big thank you” to Judy and Charles Kuykendall for their willingness to volunteer with our summer meal program we’re hosting.

The Kuykendalls contacted us wanting to volunteer with our program, seeing the kids as our future. At this time we are concentrating on the summer meal program and don’t have a program like we do during the school year, but they were more than willing to help out with the lunch program and will fill in when staff is out or when needed.

They came by to see what they would be doing, while they were here they noticed we had a canopy for kids to eat under but we didn’t have a table or chairs. That very same afternoon they returned to the center with two tables and eight chairs as a donation for the kids to be able to sit down and eat. When Brissa Padilla, executive director of Changing Lives Coalition Inc., heard of the donation she said their generosity “gave her chills.”

It’s heartwarming to know there are still people in our community that are willing to give out of their own pockets and the goodness of their hearts for the kids. Because of the kindness of the Kuykendalls kids can sit down and enjoy their meal as a family or with friends, when some don’t know what a family mealtime is even like.
