TO THE EDITOR:

In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls as National Police Week.

Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Artesia Police Department would like to take an opportunity to thank the people and organizations that showed their support during National Police Week. Some of the many entities included the Girl Scouts, the L. Dan Schulz family, the D. Robert-Martin Harvey family, and New Mexico Children Youth and Families Department. Additionally, those that offer their own silent thoughts, prayers and support are appreciated.

We look forward to additional opportunities to protect and serve people within our jurisdictional boundaries as well as looking forward to building additional relationships with them.
