The Artesia Police Department along with the Regional Emergency Dispatch Authority are celebrating the second full week of April (April 8-14) as National Public Safety Telecommunicators’ Week.

This week, sponsored by the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International and celebrated annually, honors the thousands of men and women who respond to emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and equipment, and render life-saving assistance to the world’s citizens.

Events throughout the year too numerous to mention here are handled professionally by the REDA staff while keeping officers safe, informed, and taken care of. Additionally, the citizens within the jurisdictional boundaries of Eddy County are appreciative and glad REDA has the professional staff that they do, who all contribute in keeping citizens safe and their property undamaged and secured.

There are mundane nights and crazy nights, happy stories and sad ones, and each call that comes in is a training opportunity, a learning experience, or a chance to keep skills sharp for the REDA staff. REDA, their line level employees, supervisors and management leadership have kept the ship afloat for years, and we appreciate all they do.

Thank you,
Cmdr. Lindell Smith
Artesia Police Department
