TO THE EDITOR:

I was able to make the trip to Albuquerque this past weekend and witnessed the NMAA State Spirit Championships. It was quite an experience.

It was obvious these young ladies worked very hard to get every move perfected. Our Artesia Cheerleaders did an excellent job in the competition. I was very proud of them and their accomplishments over the weekend.

When the announcements came out to place the teams I held my breath to see how the cheerleaders were placed. I knew the Artesia cheerleaders, being from the City of Champions, had to place better than fourth. The third place team was announced, “Goddard High School.” It was time for second place to be announced, “Artesia High School.”

A big smile came over the faces of the parents and supporters of the cheerleaders. Overall, they had beaten 12 other teams across the state. Congratulations to the Artesia Cheerleaders and kudos to Coach Tutak and Jackson for all their hard work. You made us proud representing the City of Artesia!
