TO THE EDITOR:
In case you haven’t noticed, our small town of Artesia is experiencing growing pains. At least a dozen new businesses have arrived, and have set up shop here lately.
The type of businesses that Artesia folks have driven to Roswell or Carlsbad for, they can more often find right here in Artesia. For years, owners of older vehicles, like my 1990 Dodge pickup, couldn’t find a garage that would work on them. Even the Dodge garage Tate Branch wouldn’t work on them. Guy Chevrolet never seemed to have time. And backyard mechanics were scarce. Like an answer to a prayer, an auto shop has shown up right on Sixth and Main here in Artesia. I took my old pickup there. I am very pleased with their work on it. Matt, the owner and mechanic, is highly trained in all areas of computer automotives and mechanics. I hear that his shop became very busy quickly.
I’d like to write, too, that Southwest Towing that carried my pickup to JJ Auto Repair I found to be very competent. I couldn’t hire them for a few days because they were so busy – after an encounter with their competition, I can understand the reason they are so busy.
Have you noticed all the new businesses that have shown up on our First Street? We now have the lube shop located right behind IHOP – a new Dollar General now open on First Street, too, doing a brisk business. But best of all, a new Laundromat opened for business Nov. 9 – all new washers and even drive-in service, too – the owner said he’s named his Laundromat The Godfather Washteria (ugh). But there is one restaurant that hasn’t shown up yet. Everyone I talk to wishes it would come to Artesia. Hear that, Long John Silver???
