Memorial services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, July 1, at Terpening & Son Chapel for Rita F. Leachman of Artesia.

Leachman, 68, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at her home.

Rev. Wesley Byrd will officiate at the services.

Rita was born Feb. 29, 1948, in Artesia to Charles Thomas Long and Mildred (Adams) Long. She was a longtime Artesia resident after moving back here in 1986 from Oklahoma.

In 1980, she married James Leachman.

Rita was a homemaker and also worked as a secretary for J.W. Drilling. She enjoyed dancing and was a member of the Senior Center. Her love was her family and grandchildren.

Survivors include daughter Tonya Teel and husband Dustin of Lovington; son Adam Leachman of Artesia; sister Joyce Byrd of Enid, Okla.; brothers Eddie Long of Enid, Joe Tom Long of California, and Charlie Long of Oklahoma; and grandchildren Lauren Belle Teel and Nolan Teel, both of Lovington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Leachman, on Nov. 13, 1994; her parents; and a brother, Jerry Long.
