The State of New Mexico rested its case Friday against Jess Carpenter, 28, of Artesia, on trial for second-degree murder in the shooting death of his best friend, Joseph Darras, also of Artesia.

After a week of testimony from witnesses called by the prosecution, District Attorney Ruark D.
