With a gunshot victim under close watch at Artesia General Hospital, the Artesia Police Department has arrested suspect John Michael Esquibel of Artesia, a convicted felon, on the charges of aggravated battery and firearms or destructive devices in the possession of a felon.
According to the police report, APD officers received a call at 7:33 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, directing them to AGH’s emergency room in reference to a victim with a gunshot wound on the side of his neck. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim’s nephew, who claimed to have witnessed the entire incident. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
The nephew allegedly stated that he, his uncle, and another person went to a home in the 1000 block of Washington Avenue, Esquibel’s residence, “to retrieve some painting and stucco supplies in order to work on a house.”
When they drove up to the house, the residence appeared to be dark with no one inside. The nephew then said his uncle went to knock on the front door when one gunshot came though the front door. Three to five gunshots allegedly followed in rapid succession.
