The trial of Osmond Viernes, 37, of Artesia, began yesterday after jury selection took place on Monday. The defendant faces charges of second-degree murder in reference to a 2012 incident in which he allegedly shot and killed Juan Sifuentes, and wounded the victim’s brother, Alfonso Sifuentes, at an Artesia residence.
On May 5, 2012, police responded to the address of Viernes’s brother, Jerry Viernes, where his daughter’s birthday party was taking place.
