Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, April 14, at Terpening & Son Chapel for Thelma Jean Lewis of Artesia.

Lewis, 92, beloved grandmother, mother and friend, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018.

Gary Weber will officiate the services, with interment to follow at Twin Oaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Bryan Atkins, Jason Atkins, Todd Atkins, J.T. Atkins, James Delaney and Brad Shomer.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at Terpening & Son Mortuary. The family will greet guests and friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thelma was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Hope to R.T. and Sarah Edith Swift.

She was recognized as a passionate teacher, artisan and advocate. Thelma leaves a legacy that is an example for us all, not only through her active roles within her church and community but by teaching us how to take pleasure in all things, big and small.

Survivors include daughter Verna Atkins; and grandchildren Bryan Atkins, Todd Atkins, Jason Atkins and Tiffany Shomer.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard Lewis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the New Mexico Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped in Santa Fe; the Artesia Historical Museum and Art Foundation; and the Artesia Senior Center – Commission on Aging.
