Wells Fargo bank recently made a generous donation to Meals on Wheels, providing the local charity with $1,500 to aid in its efforts to distribute meals to Artesia’s disabled residents.

Meals on Wheels is entirely dependent on donations from participants and the community. In 2017, support came from George Gandy Insurance, the Frank W. Yates Jr. Family Foundation, North Eddy County United Way, Gregory Cardwell (HollyFrontier), Wells Fargo, Sara Sims (JS Ward & Son), United Methodist Women, Critter Care Center, Brown Drug, Subway (P&T Foods), Christian Women’s Fellowship, Nora Johnson (Honeywell), the Altrusa Club of Artesia, On the Move, Amber White, CVE, Debbie Chavez (EOG), and Cliff and Cheryl Currier.

Donations are being collected at Fenn’s Country Market, the Do-It Center, State Farm Insurance (Sondie Stockton), B&B Newsstand, and Shop-N-Go. Donations may also be mailed to Artesia Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 208, Artesia, N.M., 88211-0208.

Delivery of meals is dependent upon at least four volunteers each weekday. Special thanks goes to dependable and reliable volunteers such as Debbie Chavez (EOG), Denise Frederick (EOG), Norbert McCaw, Terry Ferguson, Amber White, Marion Kennedy, Brandi Shetterly, Leah Boone (CVE), JS Ward & Son, Lois Oliver Real Estate, George Gandy Insurance, Pat Kunkel (Subway), Maebeth Barmore, Loni Daub (EOG), Naomi Saiz (EOG), Ray Withers (Artesia National Bank), Wells Fargo, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, United Methodist Church, Sue Kizer, Yazmin Fox, Nancy Husselman, Gaylyn Mann, Ashley Mason, Holli McCall (EOG), Bob Johnson, Maria and Ernest Almanza, Kari Ellis, Esther Garay, Lending Hands, and J&J Home Care.

To volunteer, contact Julia Ferguson at 746-9642 or jferguson@LHArtesia.org. Meals are prepared by Artesia General Hospital, and approximately 40 are delivered daily to anyone with a physical or mental disability that keeps them from preparing their own food. For many participants, the volunteer delivering the meal is their only visitor all day. “We don’t just deliver meals, we deliver smiles!”
