The City of Champions celebrated Independence Day with plenty of fun in the sun Tuesday. Residents were able to enjoy the Star Spangled Dash and a 4v4 volleyball tournament and the annual Fourth of July Parade prior to the main event: the Fireworks Extravaganza. “We are getting great feedback and record numbers!” said Jessica Bollema of the Artesia Chamber of Commerce. “We celebrated a 20-minute choreographed fireworks show (shout out to KSVP Radio for playing the music on air again this year), plus 32 “Let Freedom Ring” parade entries! We had 20 co-ed volleyball teams, which brought about 250-300 people out to Jaycee Park, approximately 100 participants in the Star Spangled Dash, and 180 golfers for the Firecracker Scramble on Saturday. These numbers prove that Independence Day and patriotism are pretty important things to celebrate in Artesia. We want to thank all who participated in one event or another!”
