On Friday and Saturday, Dec. 8 and 9, the Artesia Arts Council held a Gingerbread House Decorating Workshop for all ages at the Ocotillo Performing Arts Center.
The event drew 24 children accompanied by their families and friends. Looking back on the event, Artesia Arts Council Executive Director Kandese Green said, “I am happy that we doubled in participation from last year’s event.”
Friday’s event brought in a crowd of Girl Scouts, and Green shared, “[…] it brought me a lot of joy working with our local Girl Scout troop.” The others in attendance shared Green’s sentiment. One Girl Scout said, “I want to do this again next year!” Nancy Dunn, the Artesia Arts Council’s Education and Youth Director, also agreed she had “lots of fun.”
The Artesia Arts Council’s next event will be a Winter Paint Party taught by local artist Kirsten Mauritsen from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14. The paint party costs $35 and is for adults 18 years of age and older. Younger artists may also attend but must be accompanied by an adult. Attendees are welcome to bring their own drinks and snacks.
